Physicians Groups Services (PGS) welcomes Sharon Blackwood, MBA, MT (ASPC), CHC, CHPC as their new compliance officer. Blackwood brings PGS more than 14 years of experience working with nationally public-traded systems, CIA remediation, audit and privacy, non-profit multi-facility organizations and academic medical centers. Her role will be to develop and implement programs and processes within the areas of healthcare compliance and privacy to ensure team members are following guidelines while maintaining high standards for patients and physicians.
Blackwood holds certifications in healthcare privacy and healthcare compliance from the Health Care Compliance Association, along with her Masters of Business Administration with Concentrations in Finance and Healthcare Administration from Auburn University.
Before coming to PGS, Blackwood served as an independent consultant working with multiple national firms, including a level-one teaching hospital and an 85-clinic health system. Additionally, she supported CIA reporting and other government responses, worked in compliance program development and served as part-time Chief of Compliance and Privacy Officer.
Prior to that, she held executive positions as Chief Compliance Officer for Palmetto Health Tuomey, and as Regional Compliance Director for Quest Diagnostics, working with multiple departments within each role to ensure compliance to policies and procedures, including collaboration with legal counsel.
PGS employs more than 100 providers and more than 350 staff members. Practices include: Family Medical Centers, Coastal Spine & Pain Center, Coastal Podiatry & Wound Care, Coastal Family Medicine and Amelia Psychiatry.
